Helping hands

'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?' And the king will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.'

This passage from the Bible is what I say when people ask me why I work at the Gospel Rescue Mission. And every day is like the disaster days from Katrina.
There are many people out there all year long. Maybe think about helping out at your local shelter or soup kitchen.

at the Rescue Mission has got to be so satisfying! I saw a lady on the local TV who gave a way free hot dogs to the homeless. She was known as the "hot dog lady". She started out on the street giving them a way and now is a permanent fixture with restaurants contributing to the cause.

One man told all the homeless people to take only one sandwich so EVERYONE could eat when another one put an extra sandwich in his pocket. When ask what was in his pocket, he commented, "a gun!" and the man who ask replied, "have another one!"

God Bless,

Lil Brother:)

may be shutting down its doors. It used to get its largest donations through a program where people gave it their cars, trucks, etc. which were then sold for money to keep the mission afloat. Hard times seem to have hit the program and the mission may be shutting down leaving many with no where to go. Sleeping in the parks isn't the best place to sleep but have seen people sleeping there when I went out detecting early in the morning. Bad news for many - and this is our state capitol city! Times are geting tougher.

I come away feeling like I was more blessed than those we are helping. We never know when or where the Lord will be other than the fact he's all around us.

Good words! God Bless!

Dave

we operate mainly on the money and goods that the public donates. And still there's lots sleeping out in the desert & under bridges. Steve
