I have been detecting an old house and have found at least 20 or so wheats and a 1961 silver quarter and a 1953 silver dime the past few days. I ran into my problem when I first started detecting. My detector went nuts. I tried making all the proper adjustments and nothing seemed to work. Finally, I looked at the screen and saw that -10 through +8 kept popping up over and over so I just discriminated them out. That let it run somewhat stable but it was still acting funny. Come to find out that this yard has quite a bit of iron in the ground and this yard has a electric dog fence in the ground! So does both neighbors! Yesterday I was playing with my detector and found that if I put the filters on 12, it calms it down alot! I usually run 5 where I am at but I put it in 10 for this place on the start. Then I changed to 12 and it did seem to quiet it down. Still cant use analyze on anything! When you try to analyze, It just flat lines and says -10 at 0". This is a tough spot to detect but I am going to keep playing with it!

Hows it going Magic.I have an electric dog fence in my yard and the V3 as well as the DFX will go nuts with it on. When I turn it off the V3 can run at max with no problems. If you can get the owner to turn it off when you detect, it will probably solve your problem.

Thanks Firefighter! I wish I could but the owner has his dogs outside only and will not turn it off. It would be great if he would. I was just trying to show that almost any situation can be adapted to.

No electric fences where I have been hunting but have had the problem of it "going nuts" non-stop. Once, I gave up and went home. Will have to see if that helps my situation, Magic.

I have had thoughts there might be a defect in the coil or....

I sent you a PM Ron. I'll be in your town tomorrow and I can take a look at it.

Good hint - I generally start out lowering the Rx and offset the frequency to begin with. I been running my filter in the 5 range the most and 7.5 - 10 most other times.

Let me follow up by saying that I dont always come across on these forums with what I am trying to say. I hate typing and I do it slow so it bugs me. What I mean is that I think the electric fence that is in the ground is somehow charging the iron particles in the ground making them show up stronger on the V3. (cant prove this.) Its my understanding that the filters will not help in any way way with EMI so if you are running in an area with high EMI, changing filters may not help unless its the type of EMI that I encountered that I think is effecting the ground. I am no scientist and may be way off base with this but I am hoping someone that is much smarter at this situation may put some input into this. All I know is that the change I made for my situation helped out alot. Its always easier for me to talk in person...I really hate typing!
