I am sorta new to metal detecting and i just bought the new fisher f2.It seems every time i dig a hole there is nothing in it.I cant find anything.Anybody have any tips?

Hey Antsy,
Turn the sensitivity down to 4 bars or 3, you may be getting false signals from the ground mineralization. Also, you may want to notch out the iron too. Make sure the signals you are digging are repeating when you swing the coil left to right, right to left, front to back and back to front. To practice pinpointing, lay some coins a good bit apart on ground you know has no targets. Wave the coil over each target and practice swinging over the targets you can see, notice the sounds you hear as your coil passes over and also what you hear when the targets are in the center of the coil. Hope that helps. I have an F2 and I love it, it's a great machine.
Good Luck!

yes,

i agree with antsy. i have been detecting for just over a year with the garrett gti 2500. at first i dug allot of signals that were nothing. recently i realized that true targets will be stable and give a signal when you swing the coil over them in at least 2 directions. have read in these forums that sometimes when a coin is on its edge that it will only sound when you swing over it in 2 directions.

also, i just read that true targets will sound in both directions in my 2500 manual. this is also what was demonstrated in the garrett video but i did not notice it until yesterday. wish i had noticed that last year it would have saved me allot of frustration.

i ordered the f2 last friday and i am looking forward to its arrival.

OK- set your notching just as it says for coins in the manual, and the sens at 3 or in that area, lay the different denomination coins on the ground, spread them out, or wherever there is no interference from the ground / concrete or whatever, watch when the coil crosses the coin and listen to the signal, with your coil bout an inch above the surface, it should be right on and in the center at the strongest sound/signal, the ID should be right on and the depth real close, try it, they are very good detectors, whenever you use the pinpoint button, it will put an extra drag on your batteries, (all detectors do that) and shorten the battery life somewhat, in just a short while you will have it all figured out, good luck and HH Bugar

One you may have to turn down the sensitivity...your geting false readings.
OR you may need a small hand held pinpointer. You can get a cheap one from Harbor Frieght that works just fine.
