i am getting some big nells that read as quarter #28 to #29 they are at 4 to 5' deep on my Minelab Explorer and some coins are braking up and they are not that deep is there a bad coil or is it me Explorer or am i doing some thing wrong

I do not know about if your coil is bad but I will tell you what I do know. When I think something might be wrong with mine I hit a slump.when I have confidence in what it is telling me I do good.I have found 10 inch deep shot gun shells but wonder if it is not working right because I have not found any coins in a while at the park I have pounded since I got it.
Maybe you are like me and just need to find some new sites and have confidence that if they are there you will find them. The shallow coins breaking up might be coins on edge, they will give double and odd signals.HH,Ric

Richard one thing I've learned to do on shallow finds is to simply lift the coil off the ground a few inches. If the signal comes in loud and clear after that, then you know it's a shallow find. If it stays real strong, it's a large target and almost always for me a soda can or piece of one. I only use the smartfind screen which is pretty good at giving you a good 'look' at what the coil is over. I'm no expert by a long shot, but I've done OK with it so far and getting better all the time. Just wish I had a little more time to devote to the hobby!

I have noticed that sometimes iron targets sound really good. My suggestion is: try using your "Smart Screen" instead of the digital screen (or switch between them if the target is questionable) If the target is iron it will show you. Watch the crosshair. If it stays to the upper right the target is probably iron. This has been my experience. I hope it helps.
