Hey Guys,
I think I'm Fixing to buy a Trsoro Vaq.in a few weeks. Please tell me why I should. This will be my first Tesoro Land machine. Thanks in advance.Anthony HH

Sorry I forgot to mention I was trying to Decide between a Vaq and an AT Pro.Come on guys I need to here from you.:unsure:Even though after reading reviews I am leaning toward the Vaq

Do you need a target ID machine or just a beep and dig?
Can't decide buy both. Then you can decide which one you like better.
Just because others like a particular detector doesn't mean you will.
Too many variables of soils and types of hunting.

The Vaquero is a good all around detector at a good price new. Here's a few things I like about it....
1. It's extremely light weight and easy to swing.
2. I like the fact it runs on one 9 volt battery.
3. It is hot on gold, copper, lead, and brass....it loves finding nickels. It might be hotter on nickels than the Fisher CZ's and that's one of the best nickel machines out there.
4. It can be super tuned for more depth, but iron tends to cause problems when super tuned.
5. It ground balances easily and seems to be a bit more stabile than the Tejon.
6. Fitted with the 5.75" coil, it's a killer in the trash. Fast recovery speed and great target separation.
7. Excellent depth for relic hunting or coin hunting. Very sensitive to tiny targets at depth.
8. Nice solid build quality with lifetime warranty.
9. The Vaquero is a fun machine to hunt with and will definitely find deeper targets other detectors have missed.
10. You have never owned a Tesoro land detector before, you need to see what you have been missing out on....the Vaquero will put a smile on your face first time out with it............HH

I have a Tejon and had an AT Pro. I was with a friend who was using a Minelab Advantage and he had a signal for me to check out and I was using the AT Pro and said it wasn't any good. And then he went and dug up an Indian Head. I would lean toward the Tejon or Vaquaro and you can gb in disc for more depth. Depth with my Tejon was quite a bit more than the AT Pro.

If you want to cherry pick coins, then you don't want a beep & dig detector, if your going to be looking for coins and jewelry then the Vaquero should work well for you, unless your coin hunting really deep, then I suggest a Tejon.

Well, it's easy to set Discrimination near the top on a Vaq and just
cherry pick quarters, dimes, copper (not zinc) pennies, and silver.
You still get pretty good depth and you eliminate nearly all trash,
especially once you develop an ear for trashy sounds to avoid.

you may not have the money to buy both, but it would be interesting if you could and then after some time just see which detector you grab the most or eventually favor , then you will know , I have owned a few machines that have all the meters and I,d like the M.6 it can be fooled by a bottle cap or nail next to a good target or even more mineralized soil but the tesoro just is straight forward and will say something good is down their. plus i like the lighter machines, but the T,I,D machines can do well to just got to know them , one thing I liked about the Gold bug was it gave me an indication of how mineralized the ground was , if you can its nice to own both, but its Good to have a tesoro in your line up of detectors,

Thanks guys I've only had an ace 250 and currently aTeknetic ETP.I feel this will def. be an upgrade for me.

The Vaq will serve you very well. Put in the time to get to know it and you'll get along fine, even without TID.

i have a vaq. this summer had hunted with few that have a bounty hunter 505 and an ace 350. my opinion, the vaq is way better than them. have heard good things about the at-pro also. that is your choice on which one to get. but, you wont go wrong choosing the vaq though.

I don't know if this will be any help to you, but I have had a Vaq for about 3 years and it is my detector of choice (I have a BH Tracker IV and a Musketeer by Minelab). The Vaq is easy to use and lightweight, which is a great advantage. this morning, as the weather was just great, I went out but couldn't think of a new place to hunt, so I went back to a Dairy store that I have hunted at least a half dozen times or more. It gets a lot of business in the summer and people get change for hteir purchases and sit out and eat ice cream.

The picture shows what I found in about 90 minutes using DISC just below nickel or above TAB. Nothing old, though there is a piece of a shotgun shell, and the little heart I think is base metal.
Hope this helps,
Andy from Hillsborough

AT Pro.

For all the reasons Joe Dirt listed. I usually couldnt pay for batteries with a TID from another manufacturer . Te Vaquero paid for itself in 4 months .

Sorry, my wise arse remark was pointed at the "at pro" comment with no explanation. I know why we use Tesoros. They are great without the hype.

If you want to try an AT Pro, just paint your Ace 350 black! Just kidding, couldn't pass on that one. It's really a question of the display crutch. I say that because I believe the display for many is a crutch. My first detector was a Garret Gtax500 and it had a display. It was amazing as it told me exactly what was in the ground. Not being sarcastic, it really was a great and accurate ID detector. Fast forward to now, all my detectors are Tesoro beep and digs. So which is better? To be honest after using several Tesoro's I prefer the beep and dig. Joe_Dirt sums it pretty well. I find it easier to focus on a single tone rather than a display with bouncing numbers, especially in trashy areas.

As far as cherry picking, I respectfully disagree with MarkCZ. Set your disc just short of penny and have at it. My Silver uMax is a cherry picking machine.

Also as has already been mentioned, there is the lifetime warranty for the original owner. Hard to beat.

Most people that bash Tesoro as a single tone beep and dig have never tried one. They are simple, effective, reasonably priced, and just flat out work. This wonderful forum is full of people who have used many of the major brands, yet prefer Tesoro. Tabman is a perfect example. For me simple and effective is the answer, and for me that means Tesoro.
