Help.....

Guys,

I'm new to metal detecting and just purchased a Garret Ace 150... I'm looking for help finding the best places to hunt for treasure in my home town of Grand Rapids, MI.
Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated....

Congrats on getting into the hobby.I own the ace 250 right now though I have had many other types in the past.Just my preference is all. As to the hunting thing.Best to first work some local playground commonly called tot lots. Then possibly work public park soccer football fields. And be sure to work around those basketball courts edge as many a coin and ring have been lost there too.Key to any success you have is study the detector manual and practice all you can that is to run all metal mode and then switch to discriminate etc to see what the detector does before you dig. This time is well used to become one with the detector. The 150 is a good one and expect to dig 6" on targets for sure as it will go that deep>Now go to the Internet and type your city parks in search and it should direct you to the local parks in town. Most of all enjoy and remember each dig is like a present so be amazed at all those gifts!!!!!

ANY place can hide something ....... i found a 1910 wheat cent in
the grass strip by the curb in front of my house!!!!

Good luck and ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!

Youll find that the folks on htis site are always
willing to help

Welcome aboard Suprecrank. When you do the park playgrounds and the school playgrounds don't forget to find out where the kids go sledding in the winter. Great place to find surface finds...people lose money, watches, rings, chains and aything else you can think of. Good Luck

Good luck with your Ace 150. A few months ago a newbie bought an Ace 150 in the UK and went out and found a cache of gold Roman coins. Good luck and happy hunting.

From the land of the Bluenose....know this is an older post but in your area there is a strong detecting club....give her a whirl and good luck on your next hunt.

Welcome aboard Supercrank. You're in for some quality time with your MD. Please remember to do the following in public places:
1. In sod, cut a 3 sided plug and use the uncut side as a hinge. Gives the grass a better chance of growing back than a 4 sided plug.
2. Put the dirt you take out of the hole on a drop cloth.
3. Refill the hole and tamp the dirt, close the hatch, and press it down then use your foot to scruff up the surrounding grass so that nobody will know you've dug a hole.
4. Take all scrap metal you find with you when you leave.
5. Pick up any surface trash you see lying around and take that with you also.

You do all this and you'll give all of us MDer's a good name.

Good luck and happy hunting!
