Hi Guys,
My friend has an XS. He was detecting last night when his machine quit making sounds, and the screen got so dim you could barely see it. It just sat there and did nothing. I pushed the power button and the machine turned off. I pushed the power button again and the minelab logo came up as normal, but I heard no sound. Then the minelab logo got super dim and the machine seemed to be in hibernation. I turned the machine off again.
We exchanged batteries. His battery powered my machine perfectly. But his machine malfunctioned again while using my battery.
Have you guys ever heard of this happening?
Thanks

basically what has happened is your entire system has went to 0 . What I do 1st is crank up threshold sound until it's audible and this usually works out the kink somehow by the sound kicking in. Did you notice when you turn it on after the minelab song you get a low beep instead of a high pitched beep? Well if you did we have the same problem. After this I just press factory reset and make my adjustments from there instead of going to every menu and cranking the numbers up from zero since that is where they have went to for some reason, this is why the screen is dim, the contrast is at zero.
For me this has only happened a couple of times and always when changing to my backup pack.
Let me know what's up, I keep a close eye on this forum as I am 5 months new to the XS myself and always ready to learn more. HH, Greg.

I switch from the probe back to the coil, so I thought it was the sunray probe so I bypass the probe and still had no sound, so I held the start button for 5 seconds and it all started working again. The next day it happen again so I changed the coil and now I have hunted three times since so I am sure now the coil is defective and I hope it has a one year warranty.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the info!! I saw my buddy this evening and his explorer had mysteriously started working just find this morning. It was working good this evening too because he found a couple wheat cents and a Kansas token. But anyway, he called minelab and they told him to send it in, so that's what he'll do here shortly.
Mike
