I ordered a MXT and it should be at my house in Iowa Tomorrow when I leave my sons house in Missouri!!! SHOULD I EXCHANGE FOR A MXT PRO?????? HELP???? I have not detected since 1985 with a White 6000 Pro that I sold years ago..... Please GIVE your OPINION????
Not unless you want the multi tones like Expllnut said. There's no other difference and I wouldn't and won't trade my MXT for it. JMHO. Good luck with your MXT and enjoy! I know you'll love it and the more you use it, the more you'll learn to depend on it. Trust your machine. HH, Nancy
Like the others said unless you just need the extra tones the regular mxt is just as good and the money saved would go a long way towards a smaller coil if you hunt in trashy areas.
I have been using a standard MXT for over 5 years. In my opinion, it is one of the truly great detectors. I cannot envision ever selling my MXT. However, I am considering adding an MXT Pro to my arsenal.
There have been many times when I had to quit hunting because it became to dark to see the standard MXT display. Had I been using an MXT Pro, I could have continued by turning on the light to backlight the display. There have been a few times when I wanted to hunt in All Metal / VCO mode which can be done on a standard MXT by pulling and holding the trigger. However, it does not take long to become really tired of holding that trigger. Had I been using an MXT Pro, I could have simply pushed the trigger into the forward locked in VCO Pinpoint position. If you ever buy an inline probe, this may become an important feature to you. For about a year I have been exposed to another White
If you like staring at the screen when detecting keep it, I'd trade for multi tones myself. I prefer the M6 over the MXT for that reason alone, I don't have to glance at the screen nearly as much.
Well of course its only when there is a target there, get a target on the M6 and still don't have to look at the screen and could tell you what it is most of the time. The areas I hunt have lots of target, so signals are very frequent and require looking at the screen or understanding the tone produced. My opinion was asked so here it is. I think that this is a great feature that most any detectorist will find invaluable, unless of course you like looking at your screen
I've been thinking abt the tones also (getting the pro or m6). Maybe if I only hunt coins I'd go for it. I'm trying to go after gold rings more so a high tone wouldn't help and how would a nickel sound on a tone machine? Guess I'll just crank the disc up to those high tone items.
During this Der season I let a buddy borrow my MXT pro, he loved it . His wife bought him a mxt from a local dealer. We hunted Saturday and he is boxing it up because of the tones. He wants the multi tone because of in a area with alot of targets it does get old looking at it. Plus we hunt at night alot in the summer so the light is awesome for that and drawing bugs. I would get the MXT Pro but there is no difference in the capability of the machine just more user friendly.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the tones a turn on or off option? I'd lean to the Pro for the ground grab and backlight features as those would be more useful to me, but it is debatable whether it's worth trading up for the extra features if one already has the standard MXT. My two bits.

My wife and I have both the MXT and the Pro and you know when I use the pro, the multi tones are nice. The ground grab is also nice to have. I thought that I'd like the back light feature but one day while hunting at the beach, I was getting some decent hits but even with a backlit screen, if you can't see in the hole, then I guess it doesn't matter. I didn't have any other form of light with me. I can't imagine what I had to leave behind. The bottom line is that they are both great machines. I ended up with one of each 'cause when I originally bought the MXT, my wife liked it so the next year I bought the Pro. I think I use hers more than mine 'cause I'm used to it. HH Jack
