I am new to metal detecting and would like advise on a detector.
It would be mainly used for finding coins and jewelry

If you go through this forum and its archives you will find that the Ace 250 is about the most popular to begin with or use forever. It's easy to learn and use and competes with machines costing hundreds of dollars more, and if you decide you don't like the hobby you won't have any trouble selling it or gettig a fair price for it as they are always in demand.

I staretd with the ACE250 and i still use it I moved to a
GTI1500 and im in the learning phase of the hobby.Just

You didn't mention your budget. If you want a Garrett detector, I would suggest you go straight to the GTP 1350 and bypass the Ace 250.
It is smoother to use, a real pleasure. It goes deeper and has room to grow. Yet, it retains a large dose of simplicity for the newcomer.

If you want something else, from another maker, PM me. I'm happy to make a recommendation.

Thats part of the problem, I really don't know what brand of detector I want. I feel I want to spend
in the neighborhood of $400 hundred dollars

If he's never used one the 250 would be easier to learn and use as the 1350 has a bit of a learning curve, especially for one to whom detectors are totally alien,

Bill

$400 doesn't denote quality or performance and doesn't guarantee much except that your wallet is $400 lighter. The 250 is equal to detectors costing much more than that.
