I need some help from some of you guys that know about CW era Colt firearms. On a 1851 Colt Navy revolver, can you determine if it's CW or post war by the serial number? If so, how? You can just email your response.
Thanks
Jim

Post the number or email it to me, somewhere kicking around I have a book that gives dates for Colt pistols.

If this is a model 1851 Navy the numbers 175,000-180,000 are for the year 1864
Hope this helps, now you can contact the Colt factory and they may be able to tell you the excate date as well as who it went to, unfortunatly many of the records were distroyed in a fire, also they charge a fair amount for this service.
