:help: Yet another Sov XS battery question :usaf:

Hi guys, been a long time since I posted here, had a battery question. What is the maximum safe voltage for the Sov power regulator? Is 18 volts to much? I read on hear a while back where someone had added extra batteries to increase there run time. I did a search but couldn't find anything specific. I have some nicad packs that have four 1.5 volt cells joined together. I soldered three of these together fully charged they run about 18 volts. The detector works fine but was worried I might be shortening the life of some components (didn't want to let the smoke out of anything  . Been working on a waterproof Sov. from an old one my dad gave me. Thought she was dead but seems to still have some life left in it. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

The battery packs have 10= 1.2 volt cells you can add one more? I have done 12 but after pulling off the charger the voltage was past 16 volts and heated up the voltage regulator to hot and the detector started acting crazy !!!!! After that I went back to the 10 cell pack.
