HELP, XLT OR DFX

nuggetbuster

New member
THINKING ABOUT A XLT OR DFX. SOME SAY THE DFX ISNT MUCH MORE IF ANY OF A BETTER DETECTOR. WHATS YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS? I KNOW THE PRICE IS DIFFERENT!!!!!

With a nickname of nuggetbuster, I would think you would be looking at the MXT. Unless you already have one and are looking to add another detector to your hunting tools.

Only you can answer your question. If you can live without the advanced features of the DFX, then the XLT will work fine. Depth is about the same on both.

XLT is more stable than dfx if you can handle a little chatter then you will be fine but i have found more gold jewelry with the dfx seems more sensitive to gold also has sweep speed which is great to have, depth is about equal run in mixed mode audio for best depth with tone id on..... Good luck

 Just a reminder,...the DFX and XLT use different coil types. The coils that fit the DFX won't work on the XLT. So keep that in mind if you have a collection of coils already. I would go with the XLT. Happy Hunting, RDF:cool::detecting::whites:

I do not own either machine but just one point. One thing you may have forgot to tell Nuggetbuster is that the DFX has a (gold) prospecting program (like the MXT) and the XLT may not have one.

Does the XLT have a prospecting program as well ?

upgraded processor faster speed, better screen, newer technology. not saying xlt would be a bad choice however if hunting side by side the slower speed of the xlt would be a real issue. Why not go to newer unit you will have the DFX for a long time.

[size=large]don't consider either of them to be hot picks for nugget busting.

I've owned a number of both models through the years and, without hesitation, I can say that the XLT's were quieter, smoother operating, and their depth was 'comparable.' In the long run I'd give a little 'edge' to the XLT in depth due top the stability, the DFX getting more noisy and inconsistent on deeper targets.

I'll also say that I'd opt for a 6000 Pro XL/XL Pro if I was after raw depth of detection over either of these models.

Thanks for that information Monte.
I have wondered about that over the last couple of days. The circuitry must be set up with coin hunting as it's priority. Although, I'm not in a position to buy some more detectors at the moment, the MXT and XLT will eventually find their way into my arsenal. The MXT seems to keep cropping up on my radar, so I'll have to scratch that itch first.:) I hope the wife doesn't get too fobbed off from tripping over so many detectors.
