HELP !!! :surrender: I have bought some Bulgin Buckeneer inline connectors to mod my excalibur/ 15"Wot , My problem is that I have 5 wires from the excalibur and 4 from the Wot ??
The Excalibur colours are ....orange. black. blue. red. green. and a nylon cord
The Wot colours are ..orange. black. red. white.
Do I ignore 1 of the excalibur wires?.......... if so ( which one) ?? .......... or do I double 2 wires up together = 5 into 4 or is it 4 into 4 ...HELP :stars:
Im hoping this mod will help me hunt the massive bays in Spain during my month long hunting holiday / trip
thanks for your help

Hi Timmy . thanks for your reply , but I cant read it ?? other hunters on the thread you sent me say ....red-red, black-black.white-white .yellow -orange ? But my excalibur has blue and green !! HELP !! trust me to be the odd one out !!?? thanks Tony

Tony,

Try this one. Be sure to send me the requested info on the S5 Intruder so I can add it to the matrix.

Thx,
Dave

Tony,

Excal Blue/Green are common ground. Wire them to the WOT White. All other wires are the same red-red, blk-blk, orng-orng. Be sure the solder the blue & green together prior to installing as a single wire into detector side of the 4 pin connector.

Dave

dave,
is this a proven/field tested wiring configuration?? i had a sef coil wired to a 5 wire version excal and was told by a minelab tech use the green wire as ground and terminate the blue wire from the excal! if i remember correctly, soldering the blue and green wires together did not work at all!!!!!!!! machine never worked correctly so i bought a 5 wire 10 inch coil and did away with the sef.

i am the one that told you there were indeed 5 wire excals out there, do you remember?

Many thanks to Davespan his wiring colours where spot on !! :cheers:and the other hunters who have helped and advised me with this mod problem :clapping:, The Mod is now done and I have now got the in-line connector fitted and the silicone is drying in the coil cover and around the coil cable clamps .
I did a coin (air test) and it is working ,nulling and returning to the threshold tone so I am happy it is functioning ok ? ;) I only hope that it performs as well as they say ? :detecting:I am wanting the bigger coil to cover the ground better and deeper ? Il let you know how it performs in the wet stuff ??!! :wiggle:
thanks again Tony Weston :ukflag::cheers:

let us know when you get it in the water if it performs correctly?

Will be waiting for your post on how you do with the WOT. I am in the process of possibly modifiing my Excal II with the WOT. PLEASE keep me/us advised. Thank You and GOOD LUCK!!!!!---Joel

Sorry to resurrect a rather old thread here.

However I want to do this mod, I have the coil but wondering the best way to fit to my excalibur II.

Is hard wiring the best or putting a connector inline ?

I have looked at the bulgin and also a few other but don't know which is best.

Looking for some good advice please.

Thanks

If your detector is going to be submerged best to be hardwired. Doc's seem to be the best as far as the coil connectors, I have seen a few and installed a few, all have leaked over time, if you do use them check every 30 days, the saltwater will destroy the copper wiring fast...the mini bulging, very bad....

On the install, use the stock endcap, get yourself the large heyco fitting
http://sg.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Heyco/3240/?qs=cBQBJvSZt6%252b4Ulw2Au50qA==
drill and tap this then install will be much easier

I have to get hold of dave, the wiring diagram has two errors, the SEF 10 x 12 and the WOT to a Sword model Excalibur...if wired as the diagram said the signals will be inverted and target response is very poor.......................The one for the WOT to the xcal II is fine...Good Luck

My advice here, follow OBNs. Just hardwire it. If you want to be able to change coils, the GT is best choice, of course if you water proof the GT that is no easy task. If you want WOT on excal, probably best to hardwire it. That way it won't leak. Problem is, what if you want to go back to 10 inch coil, or even the 8 inch one. Well, to be honest. Since I installed one on my GT this past march, I have yet to really bust out the excal with 10 inch coil on it. I have not looked back. Had to set up a "hipstick" like support system to be able to hunt for more then 20 minutes. But its DEEEP!!! hh an gl -Joe

Robinb, I just recognized who you were from MLF, you know you can try the Doc's, I know Eric that use to post here on the Sovereign/Excalibur forum swore by the Doc's. and I would guess he still uses them. I have installed a few and they are quite easy, just make sure you use a good silicon grease on the O-Ring seals, like Dow111 which is very firm. The last set I put on was for Midas touch, and that was for him to switch out the WOT and the 10 inch, last I talked to him he ended up hardwiring the WOT because he said they leaked. But he did hunt some ruff waters of the California coast. If you do install just cut them in higher up on the coil wire so if you do decide to go hardwire you still can. Good Luck and keep us informed. And welcome to Finds, more of the tech side / modifying gang. Lots of oldtimers here with many years of experience, which I have learned a lot from....

Hi Joe, forgot to subscribe to topic so missed your post till now, yes its me from MLF :)

Sorry what are the Doc's ?

I was trying to source the coiltek own kit but been let down by coiltek on this (long story).

Not sure about hardwiring or not, I would like the ability to change back easily to original coil if needed.
The hunting I am doing is upto 5 foot max water depth and the joins must be watertight fully at that.

Thanks for your advice on the bulging connectors, until you said they were my preferred choice as they claim 10m water depth for 2 weeks.

I am struggling also to source the hypo strain relief you mentioned, things just seem more difficult to get in europe at times.

thanks
