Help with V3

BOIdaho

New member
My detecting buddy got a V3 for Christmas from his wife. We usually go out together detecting, I use a Minelab E-Trac and do very well with that. My friend on the other hand is having a hard time with his new machine. He has a lot of experience with metal detectors and has been using an older Whites Eagle and has made some great finds with that one. What I would like are some tips to help him with his new machine. I looked at the V-3 short cuts by Carl-NC and that looks like a great way to start. I did down load the Field Guide for the Spectra V3. I know White

I would have him focus on setting the RX gain there is a "probe" feature on the V3 that essentially analyzes the ground and gives a recommended setting for the RX gain.

Then I would put the machine in either coin, or jewelry coin program, adjust the RX gain to the recommended setting from the Probe feature, and start swinging. I found that it took a little time to get accustomed to what the machine was telling me, and as i dug my targets things started making more sense with regard to VDI numbers, the tones for the target, and how the analyze feature works. (I LOVE the analyze feature)

Most of all don't let him give up, it's a great machine... and I wish I still lived in Idaho..because there's some great places I'd be headed for a little nugget shooting :)

I have never used or owned a "Real Metal Detector" until I purchased the V3 the last week of October. The Field Guide pretty much says "its a turn on and go machine" and that is somewhat right.
I would suggest to read the complete owners manual from cover to cover and when your done reading it, read it again.
I agree with what Aurium stated above about the "Probe" and the "Analyze" they are wonderful tools.

Read thru this forum and I'm quite sure you will find the answer to just about any question(s) you may have about this wonderful machine.

Most of all, PRACTICE and adjust the machine do what you want with the programs and if they do not work out for you, restore them and keep going.

Read your most recent post/new thread and sounds like he's doing better now. As much as the V3 is slated as a "turn on and go" it isn't as straight forward as the previous models have been. Once the fact that it is too hot for all situations is understood, detuning and working your way up is how to find the beginning point for learning the rest.
