Since you have the XS, I would run it in iron
mask,say around -10 till you get experienced with
using it some.
If you plan on using conduct sounds, time and doing some digging will help more than anything
else.
What I do is use a small amount of iron mask and use a cleared program screen which I will toggle to when I get questionable signals that might be good. When I do this, I see where the cursor lands, if it locks in the left top corner of the screen, I generally know I am over iron.
Generally speaking you know you are going for the right kind of signals if you dig some bent nails or small iron wire or nails with globs on them.
Another good clue is to watch the depth meter,
if it shows halfway or more shallow, most of the time these will be nails.
I will dig some of those iffy signals and if most of them are nails, then I go for a little better audio signal from then on at the particular sight.
On those better iffy signals, the cursor will tend
to bounce toward the right on the screen whereas the more questionable signals will try to end up in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
I have my doubts that there is any videos showing these iffy signals.
If you know an experienced Explorer user near, that would be a good help.
The way I learned this was the hard way by digging a bunch of holes and seeing how it turned out, I guess out of curiosity to see what the detector was telling me.
Starting out at -10 iron mask, if you get a break thru signal that sounds fairly good, dig it and see what happens, I have dug some deep ones using a lot of discrimination when I first started using the Explorer so after using the XS some, you should get the hang of it.
