Help with setting on ace 250 hunting farm, woods and vineyard

Greetings All,
I`m new to this forum and to MD. I have a chance to hunt an old farm, vineyard and woods with a trail that leads to a creek where people frequent during the summer. I was wondering if anyone can give me some tips on what setting to use while hunting this area, where to start and is it worth hunting the trail to the creek? I have an Ace 250 with the stock coil. I`ve been told to use all metal mode and keep my sensitivity about 2-4. And to dig everything. Does this still apply for this type of area? Any other tips anyone can give will be greatly appreciated.

It would certainly depend on what you are after. If you want relics hunt in All Metal...you can set your sensitivity as high as you want but I usually set it at 4 or 5 bars. Anything more than that and you risk running into false signals and a very noisy detector. If you set it at 2 bars you will miss some good stuff I think. If you are after silver notch out everything below pennies..good luck !

Dave , Thanks for the advice. I think this time I will be looking for coins. I`ll save the relics for the next time. Seeing it is a friends land. Any advice on hunting the vineyard rows and trail leading down to the creek and the creek itself?
Thanks

Well I guess you just have to imagine where people would have walked or sat. I would scan the entire trail down to the river and maybe if there are some open areas next to the river where people might have fished or had a picnic. As far as the vineyard? Is it still a functioning vineyard or no longer used? I've never hunted one so just use good judgement, maybe detect closer to the vines or where they used to be. Chances are it was harvested by hand so there was plenty of loose change in the pockets being lost....or not...lol. Detect everything and see what you come up with. I have a hunch that maybe Jewelry mode would be a good choice here.....best of luck to you...wish I could tag along. We just got 4 inches of snow dumped on us..

Normally I would run the machine wide open, but I like to see everything in the ground.
But I guess you could notch the low end iron if you are going for coins.
Set the sens to match the ground you are over. Except for the most hot ground areas,
2 is too low. You will be missing stuff set that low. You will even miss stuff set to 4..
I run mine as high as the ground will let me. If the machine chatters too much, back it
down a tad. I like to run in the gray line of hotness.. Almost on the verge of chatter.
Some areas you can run hot, some you can't. The machine will let you know if it's too
hot. A little chatter doesn't bother me. You can tell what is chatter and what is a real
target. If it repeats, it's a target. If not, probably a false..
Can't tell you much about the location. I would search around the house first.
Then try to envision where the people might have walked around the most.
I'd probably hit the trail to the creek before I did the vineyard rows..

Dave , the vineyard isn`t functioning anymore. But I`m thinking that someone at some time must have lost something while working the rows. Sorry to hear about the snow.

NM5K, I will give it a try with the sens. up a bit higher. And yes around the house and where people would be. Thanks so much for replying. I appreciate the advice.

HH both of you

I would start in the coin mode I would hunt it all start with the trail down to the creek do the creek area. Then do the vineyard If you can then hunt in the water. sound like you have a good spot to hunt. Good hunting

Thanks Jim I hope I get some real goodies.
