Help with program for NE PA

DiggingPA

Can any of you veterans suggest a program to use in North East Pennsylvania on the CTX? I see several programs available on this site and others just not sure witch would work best in my area. I do mostly coin hunting. Getting back into it after a little time away. Thanks in advance!

Have you used the CTX yet? Have you metal detected a lot before with other machines? You’ll get 1001 different opinions, because people like to opine. Me too. The first thing you should do,IMHO,is to go through ALL of the settings, menus and screens and KNOW HOW to navigate the machine. If you don’t,you’ll be at a disadvantage. You don’t have to fool around with the GPS stuff but the critical menus have to be second nature.
As far as specific patterns go,I know what I use,I know what works in southern Wisconsin for ME and it found a lot of silver last year and the year before. Much of that had to do with site selection. You can have the grooviest pattern known to man and if you’re in the wrong place, you won’t find any old coins. Makes sense, right? You’d be AMAZED at how many guys try it anyway.
Find an old site, put it in the factory Coins Mode,Auto +3 and start swinging. The general consensus is to do this for many hunts til you get the feel for the way the machine does it’s thing. I could tell you what settings work for ME but that doesn’t mean you’ll find them to be what YOU need or even like.
Good luck however you do it,with the CTX you can’t hardly miss.

I think Andy’s book is great at explaining all the controls and settings for the CTX , especially if your new to the machine.
I agree with IDX , learn to use the stock programs and then when you have an understanding , build off those and design what works for you and your needs.
I have a nice test garden that I run over and test different settings and see if they help or hurt .
I know it’s pretty cold to be messing outside so you can always do some inside bench testing , not as good as a garden but something to work with.
There’s a ton of videos out there to look at , both good and some questionable too.
Reading , research , and hands on experience will get you there

Thanks for the response! Been detecting on and off for 30 years. Have been a White's guy for 28 years and switched to the CTX 2 years ago. Used it hard for about 5 months then life took over and finding time was difficult. I've read the books, jotted down notes and played with the machine until I "learned" it. Not saying I'm great with it but I'm not a rookie either. Can't wait until the thaw. Thanks again!

Well maybe we can get together sometime. I went to Andy's boot camp and really learned a lot. Of course I read the book too. I generally use some modified stock programs, however the ctx excels with a wide open pattern. You just have to get used to the noises. I think if you acquire some patterns and modify them in the field you will be doing a lot better. The stock programs are not that great, and Andy explains why in his book. The greastest thing I took from boot campwas to noise cancel all the time. It made huge differences in my finds

Where did you do the boot camp at? I would love to attend one but time would be the issue. As far as getting together sometime, that sounds good. We had about 6-7 inches of snow last night so I won't be detecting anytime soon. I can message you my contact info and maybe we can plan a hunt together in the spring.

I also attended a BootCamp and lots of good

http://www.sabischbooks.com has Bootcamp info look under Training then Bootcamp

I went to Gettysburg. He had one in the Scranton area in July. Well worth it. Also ,he downloads some of his new hot patterns. Andy is a great guy and knows his craft. Yes, just pm me your contact info and when the weather breaks we can do some digging.

We have two planned in your area - one in Albany, NY and the other in Gettysburg, PA . . . . . let us know if either one works for you

Hope to see you at one of them
