Hi Everyone
Just get my self a new metal detector a Troy Shadow X2
I'm new to the Troy but not to the hobby, I've been md senses 2000.
Any Tips, Tricks, or Advice you can throw my way would be a great help.
I am interested in knowing how to keep from digging all those pesky round
bottle caps and pull tabs - I am always saying the mantra
(pull tabs are my friend) but I just keep finding them!!!
I live hear in Philadelphia Pa. and will be hunting wood, parks and maybe a beach or two.
My other machine is a Minelab Sovereign GT a great beach machine.
Hope you can help me get started with my new to me Shadow X2.

Hi,
Make a post on the Tesoro forum as it was made for Troy by Tesoro.

If you ever find out the secret let me know , You can disc out to the point of digging only high conductors but the pesky real flat bottle caps will still creep in now and then . The coin check button let's them sneak in also .( like they have in just about every detector I have ever owned ) . I haven't had my Troy X-2 very long either . The Nickels , tabs ,aluminum chard and the 3 junk rings I have found all sounded the same to me . No gold with it yet but it's lightweight , has a great recovery speed and is well built . When I use it in the dirt I dig everything at #3 on the discrimination and in wood chip tot lots I turn the discrimination all the way down . I use an M-6 or an SE for the TID when I'm looking for something specific in the dirt or sand and want the tones and more visual info . I like different detectors for different types of detecting .

Try turning the discrimination to where a nickle cracks and breaks, then back it off a hair and mark the spot where the signal is still strong. Then do the same with the most common tab you encounter and mark that spot. When you get a signal that is strong up to the tab marking you'll know it's not a nickle and 98% likely to be a tab or aluminum. If you care to, you can go a little farther and put a mark where ZINC pennies fall off as well. Then hunt with the disc set a bit lower than the nickle mark and you should still get good hits on small jewelry etc. Whenever you get a confusing signal, dig. Every so often one of those turns out to be a goodie rather than junk. My two bits.
