Does anyone have any ideas on what type bullet this may be? I found it in my dads back yard, as far as I know nothing was there bu farmland before they built.

Thanks....love the site

I found one bout like that in the high mountain desert along continental divide near Grants New Mexico few years back, bout 3-4 miles from anything at all, we never was able to figger it out.
probly a bullet from a UFO :detecting::thumbup::usmc::usaflag:

Scwolf: my suggestion is to try to match the bullet through a book called "Cartridges of the World" by Frank Barnes that should be available through your local library. Bullets with that shape and dimensions are high velocity rifle bullets and yours has a large caliber and is also very long. My guess from Barnes is the .50 caliber Browning Machine gun bullet (page 101). Barnes says that several bolt action rifles use this bullet. Your bullet looks to be about 2.25 inches long and if you take the cartridge length (5.545 inches and subtract the cartridge length from the base to the casing neckdown (3.280) you end up with a potential bullet length of 2.27 and shape generally matches. Matching is a little hard to do if you don't know the weight of the bullet.

Anyway, it's my guess ......best try your hand at a match with Barnes.

Hope this helps
