I found this in germany a few years ago and have not been able to ID it. It is the size of a US quarter. Any help?

Thanks Guys, I have a starting point and know more than I did. They are very similar. Mine has writing under the 1777, looks like DANTES, along with some other minor differences. I would like to know what it was used for and any history. Wish I could read German
 
You can! Go to this webpage (www.leo.org) click on English-German dictionary, and enter your word in either English or German. I use this all the time to decipher business writings from Germany. Works great!
