Help with I.D. of silver eagle

doublet2a

New member
Found this in a home site that mostly had coins from 1940,s
First I thought it was junk until I cleaned it up:poke:
Because of the fact it's a stamped out piece:shrug:
It says "Sterling" on the back
and you can see where there was something attached to back
at two spots:stretcher:
seems big for a medal???
Any help would be greatly appreciated:punch:

Thanks for lookin

HH TIM :D

The pic below has enough similarities to warrant a look. Note the missing gold pieces.

From a current ebay auction:
This auction is for a WWII sterling silver Navy pin measuring 1 1/8 wide by 1 1/8 tall. This pin has the eagle atop a US shield with the traditional Navy anchors. The eagle and shield are stamped sterling and the anchors are stamped with 1/20 10k gold + sterling silver. Also hallmarked with a star. Pin clasp is in excellant working order. Condition of this navy pin is excellant.. This is a fantastic piece of WWII memorabilia for any collector

WW II United States Navy officer's cap eagle. The cap eagle is of a two piece construction. The silver eagle is marked with the Hillborne and Hamburger trademark on the reverse and is marked sterling. The gold crossed anchors are marked Viking and 1/20 10K. The entire device is very well detailed and in very good to excellent condition.

doublet2a, this is not a perfect match, as you can see from the head detail, but the wings and the legs and shield are very similar. As well, note the two pin attachments and how their position matches with yours. (your pic posted for comparison)

Hope this helps point you in the right direction.
