Help with Excal. Acting erratic.

I have had the Excal for several years and all of a sudden it has been singing like a cannerie and has no depth. I have cleaned between the coil cover, batteries are charged and rechecked settings. It does not work well on land or water. Any other suggestions. Where do I send it in for repairs? Thanks for your help.

Check the battery pod contacts and connector for corrosion. If you can clean them up that might be worth checking before sending it in. If you have a volt meter, make sure the batteries are really charged.

A link to the service information on the company web page follows. Note that they say to call first to make sure you have the correct service center to send it to.

Could be your coil. Turn all of the knobs all the way down being carefull not break a pot. Slowly turn sensitivity back to where you had it and see if it starts the noise again. Check for water to have leaked through a broken "O" ring and gotten to the main board. Could be a number of things. Try and get hold of Old Beechnut on this forum. He probably knows exactly what to look for. Minelab Customer Care number is 877-767-6522.

Whats it do when you move your sensitivity to 12 0'clock? Might be your sensitivity not your coil. Take a month from ML, if you are close to Fl, Kelleyco does repairs too. The guys at Kelleyco will talk to you about possible problems, ML..... well most of the time they just say send it in. Kelleyco gets their machines out FAST in most cases. Could well be moisture in the pod. When those O rings get bad if you use pressure hose to rinse your machine water can get by them.

I have to agree with Drew. At least call Kellyco in Florida. Their service dept. is top notch in my book. I dropped off my Excalabor 1 too them last month after spending 3 weeks in the Caribbean Islands. I had a broken wire in my headphones. While there, they replaced a couple of pods in the control box and also while it was open, put all new O rings in the box to make sure that it is waterproof. The unit was shipped back to me a week later. Good people.
