Help with detecting an old wagon road...

I was invited, today, by a friend to come to his farm and detect anywhere but especially on an old wagon road. He said that it has not been used in at least 100 years. It runs's on his land for a few hundred yards. Do you have any comments or ideas about detecting something like this? He also told me that there is a lot of steel on the land as a previous owner was a welder who worked on plant Bowen nearby.
Also there were Federals on the road in the Civil War, the land is out at Euharlee or Stilesboro, GA

I'm going out there next week. What should I expect?

Thanks,

Julien

Julien, expect the unexpected. Not being able to see the lay of the land, use commin sense and your imagination. I may be wrong but I think you will find more stuff along side the road than in it but be sure and look in the road also. Look for big old tree's and look around and under these. Good luck and I have a feeling you are gonna find something nice...d2

Julian,
I suggest you check off the trail as much as several hundred yards. The erasion being the men walked away from the main trail to hunt game. Good luck.
Digger Don.

Look for high ground near water if it is available. That's where I'd start, but the whole area sounds good. Good luck and post what you find.
