help with decision on new minelab

Ok guys , here's my dilema.. I have been detecting for over 30 years.. Been a whites fan for most of that..two years ago I bought an explorer xs from my buddy for two hundred bucks..had trouble with it for a while not wanting to start..but lately its been working perfect and turning on and off with the power button perfect??? (Did it fix itself?) Either way , I am pretty impressed with the Minelabs ability to sniff out deep coins ..especially Indians and silver dimes ..running stock coil ..auto 28 .. gain 8 ..and deep on..running factory coin program.. Now I guess the choice is between another old xs , a 2 , or an etrac. Does the Etrac have the ability to detect much better than the old xs? I am pretty happy with the xs perfomance...and am wondering if there is much to gain by buying a new Etrac? Or is it very similar in depth to the xs...? I realise that some of the best detectorists in the world own Etracs, but I want to hear honest opinions ..either good or bad.. to help me make a choice ..thanks in advance .. One thing I do like better on my whites is the pinpoint feature...I think its mostly related to the stock coil being a DD ..verses concentric...but I do okay with it.. Does the Etrac pinpoint better than the xs?

Hi Todd,
I will explain my opinion with my own dilemma, I had the EXII and was stacked with coils and probes but I never was very good at it. Now that was a few years back but from what I read the Etrac is easier to learn. Sounds to me like you are over the learning hump. Thru reading a lot I don't believe either unit is deeper. The Etrac may be a little more stable on the deep targets. Now if it was me and I was comfortable with the EX I would get the EX SE Pro, from what I understand the Pro coil has made a significant improvement. Now if money was no issue then I would consider an Etrac. Sounds like you really like the XS so why not try a used SE Pro? You can get one with warranty for under a grand. Please understand this is strictly an opinion coming from a current Etrac owner who is still green with the FBS technology.

Good luck with you decision and I wish you many great finds to come!

No the new Etrac is not deeper just many more use functions. Much faster processor which works much better in trash. Major one there. Auto sensitivity is a huge plus as well!

Call me with your questions! Love to help you and make you a great deal! Thanks, Bart

Thanks Jeff...money is an object..and over the years I have seen what guys can do with the original explorer.. That's why I am a little scared to make that decision.. some guys swear by the Etrac , some guys say it ain't as good..I have come to kinda like this old xs..at first I thought it was overrated.. till I used it for a while.. and it is one good machine.. pretty dead on for telling what the Target is ..I'm leaning toward the Etrac .. but that means saving s bit more.. thanks for your help..

Got a great deal on sold but never Used Minelab E-Trac metal detector. Customer returned it the day he got it. I checked it out. Its perfect!

I have an E-Trac, got it back in November last year. I've had many other detectors prior to this, but not one with the FBS technology. I currently own 3 detectors, the AT Pro, X-Terra 705 and the E-Trac, out of them all, the E-Trac is my to go detector because of how easy it is to use. It also finds the deeper items that the other two can not.

The only deficit that the E-Trac has, is it's ability to see small / tiny gold items and fine gold chains, this is where my X-Terra 705 with the 5x10 18.75kHz coil comes into play if I am looking for that stuff.

Give Bart a shout, he might be able to make a deal for you.
