Help with Dark Images.

Hi I have an Olympus C3000 Zoom Camera and I am new to digital photography. I have made some great pictures and have also made a few not so good ones. My biggest problem is that some of my pictures are dark and the only way I can lighten them is by using photo software and this doesn't work so well. I have been using the P or auto setting when taking pictures. Is there a setting that I can use to lighten pictures as I take them and still have good quality? Thanks, any help would be appreciated: Tom

you just might have your shutter speed too fast. The faster you shoot the more light you will need.
Maybe you need an external flash unit.
You have a digital camera so take a lot of pictures and experiment.
