Help with coils

I have a 6 X10DD and I am thinking of a SEF. Which would be the better 8X6 or the 10X5. I am looking for the best depth and/or separation without extra weight because of my arthritis. Any info will be appreciated.

In my opinion, the 8x6 SEF is *the* best overall coil available for the MXT. It's what I use 90% of the time.

I like the 8x6 on my M6 also its a very good coil and light weight too . I saw the Sef 5x10 Wss also and have wondered about it but never got brave enough to buy one and try it yet . Thought someone would post some reviews on it but can't find any yet . I don't know why they don't post weights for all coils when they are selling them so a person knows the difference in weight between the coils when shopping for one . Anyway the SEF 8x6 works great for a old guy with leg and Arthritis problems like some of us have . Hope you find one works good for your problem .

Hi Larry & Nancy I'm back ...

I use both the 10x6 and the SEF8x6 coil on my DFX and the Whites coil was my favourite for years instead of the stock coil but in the last year after buying the SEF coil that stays on the detector most of the time,i would not say that its deeper but i find that its much sharper on targets and seems alot more stable.

It certainly is a very light coil and pinpoints very well, for open pasture or big ploughed and rolled fields then i use the larger Hotshot coil.

I have dug Indian heads at 7 to 8 inches with the sef 8x6 with a good signal .I didn't care for the whites 6x10 it was to heavy for me I'm a old man and the depth wasn't good at all for me was averaging 5 maybe 6 inches that's why I switched to a different coil , now not all people get the same depth I was getting cause I have seen guys dig coins real deep with there 6x10's with different detectors than miine , but I couldn't get it out of mine when I had it .The type of soil and minerals in your soil will effect your depth , different coils handle different types of soil and interference differently that's one reason why you should always keep your ground balance set properly . Anyway main point for me the 8x6 gets better depth and weights less and just plain runs smoother for me .

That is the info I was looking for. I know that every patch of dirt is different and your depth my increase or decrease but I just wanted to compare the 2 coils.

bigdawg47, I got your msg but for some reason I could not msg you back.
