Help With Bounty Hunter Quick Draw 2 PLS

Sekt0r

New member
Hello.I'm newbie and i read the manual of Quick Draw 2.It's said there that this is very good detector but I'm interested in detecting only 2-3 kind of metals like gold, silver and brass maybe but as i adjust it in jewelry or coinshooting mode (like it's explained in the manual) it continues to detect some nails or aluminium foil...can somebody give me examples how to adjust the knobs to detect only gold, silver and brass?

hi sektor. welcome! i also own the qd2/pioneer 202. from what i can gather, you are looking for the whole spectrum of metals. gold comes in very low, brass is usually mid, and silver very high. if you have an old gold ring, a piece of brass, and a silver coin, and run them under your coil, taking note of the range of beeps, then you will see what i'm saying. to find that range of targets, you will have to run low discrimination [about 8 or 9 o'clock] and of course with the sensitivity as high as the machine will allow without chattering. and your're going to dig a lot of junk looking for gold. i never felt the need to operate in the notch modes, it seems i always missed what i was looking for to begin with when i tried the notch modes. i like to dig it all, except the obvious junk. and i've been very successful operating in that frame of mind. good luck, and hh,

10x man, but see what is happening...I put some different kind of coins at the ground in my home.the ground is wooden and as i sweep the coil over the the detector gives all kind of signals over 1 kind of coin...for example i put a silver coin and the arrow apperas at ZInk and then s-caps and then iron...and gives different sounds... i'm wondering why the hell is happening that? I got this Detector for 2 days and today is my first day of exploring it :) pls explain !

I also want to ask about sensitivity knob...what's the meaning of 100% counterclokwise working and the opposit (100% clockwise) ,and if u can please explain about the different kind of modes auto notch, notch, discrimination and so on. sorry for bothering you man, but i don't know who to ask.
,again 10x anyway!

hi again, sektor. it sounds as though your coil cord is loose - gotta check it all the time - that runs into your control box, or your bats might be going dead. the machine will beep endlessly if it's loose or out. if you are getting lots of false signals -constant beeps with nothing there, usually happens on the edges of your swing - then your sensitivity dial on the left side is too high for your particular ground conditions, so you need to ease it off, turning counterclockwise until the chattering stops. it's very possible that you are on "hot ground" - ground that is heavy with mineralization, like naturally occuring metals in trace amounts. also make sure the batteries are put in up/down to each other, that causes trouble too. a test garden is a good idea. get representative pieces of everything you think you will encounter, and bury them at different depths. it takes time and practice to get used to metal detecting, and i can say with great certainty that the quickdraw2 is a great machine once you get to know it. don't forget that ground conditions can change a lot in a given area. i hope this helps, you can pm me if any more trouble. good luck, what part of the u.s. are you in? hh,

I agree with Grey Ghost on this one...Either your cable is loose going into the control box, or your using batteries that are dying, or poor quality batteries...if you correct these 2 problems, and the false signals remain, your SENS knob is turned too high...you cannot trust the manual here...There are 2 known mistakes in the manual...One is that your detector does NOT turn on in the All-Metals mode...It turns on in DISC mode (hence the single beep after all the tones). Second, you can seldom turn the SENS up to 3 o'clock for normal hunting (I can not usually turn it past noon without the detector chattering with no motion)...if you check all these things, and you still get chattering, it is time to send the unit and coils back to First Texas for repair or replacement...If you just bought the machine, send it back to where you bought it (hopefully you kept the receipt)...

Happy Hunting,

Ok but, can u tell me how exact the QD2 reacts when detect gold in notch mode or in auto notch mode, and discrimination mode, or for example silver in the same operationg modes.
And i put the batteries the right way as it is shown in the manual...i saw that i turned them not correctly ( 2 with the heads up ;D) so u mean the cable have not to be loosen...I wind it around the stick :)
I'm asking you this questions cuz i see u got expirience with the QD2 and if my QD2 is broken i will see where is "the missing part of the puzzle".
About the soil...I'm from Bulgaria and the soil here is almost everywhere humus (black earth or chernozem) ...i hope u understan what I mean. Till now i have always tunred my Sensitivity knob at the higher possible possition...can u explain also the normal reaction when the detector detect small gold items whatt happend...or also lots of gold items at 1 place ( and the same with silver) ... i really sorry for bothering you man...really sorry but i want to know if my detector is broken...for me is difficult to understand cuz i got no experience...PLS explain with patience....

Sorry again for the time you lost on me.

Welcome to the forum, gray ghost & BHLandStar are very wise so what I,m about to tell you is from my experience only. To me it sounds like your trying learn everything a once, take it slow. I started learning in auto notch mode 1st because it does a lot automaticly, true you will miss somethings but it want drive you crazy with all the beeping on every little item, what this does is it don,t beep on a lot of the junk items. Silver will be 10 cent/25 cent, gold will be 5 cent(aluminun can tabs is 5 cents) aluminum cans can show 25 cent. If it jumps around its probally junk . At 1st you should dig everthing to learn what the MD is telling you. Start slow and learn different settings after you have mastered the 1st. Have fun, to me its a thrill because you never know what you'll dig next. PS You might want to turn sens 12 o clock or less and disc 9/10 o clock to start and work from that. Just my idea only. Good Luck

so there you have it, sektor. apart from having a bad machine, which is unlikely, my only other advice would be to try to be patient and figure out what's going on. between bhlandstar, beavertail and myself, wev'e covered every possibility we know of. good luck, and hh,

The Humus ground may also be your enemy...I have found that even in wet wood bark, I have to turn the SENS down to about 9 o'clock position...the water retention of this stuff just makes the detector go nuts...As stated earlier...gold is going to give you a low tone for small items, and a medium tone for larger items....It will show up in the 5 cent to the pull tab range most of the time...Silver will show as 10 cent to $1 depending on its size...the larger it is, the farther to the right it will show, and will always give a high tone...multiple items next to each other, may sound off with multiple fast tones, or may show up totally different than what is really present...just like a large aluminum can can show as a quarter sometimes...large rusty iron shows up as 50 cents or a dollar...It just takes digging every thing your hear...keep your SENS turned low, and your DISC Notch turned all the way to the left to start, and dig Everything...remember what different objects register as, and soon, you will know 80 percent of the time what is beneath your coil...It just takes practice and hands on experience. Also, if you plan to hunt for gold nuggets, get the 4" coil if you do not have it already, and work slow with it...overlap your swings, and work SLOW...
