Help with Additional Search Coils and Opinions on Stock Shaft

E-TREC-Virginia

New member
Getting ready to buy an Infinium and wanted to get some opinions on optional search coils and how good the stock shaft is. Looking at the Garrett 8" mono and the Garrett 5 x 10. Of the two, which one would you recommend. Are there others that I should be looking at? Also, how is the balance on the stock shaft? Is it worth getting an after market shaft? I purchased a Plugger shaft for my Excal II and really like it.

I will be using the Infinium mostly for water/beach hunting and relic hunting here in Virginia. All opinions are welcome.

I have all 3 of those coils and if I had to only have 2, they would be the 8" mono and the stock coil. However, if you are planning to "beat the thickets" with it, the 5 X 10 works well. A after-market straight shaft will be worth the purchase.

Thanks Tom for your input, it helped a lot along with what the other folks on different forums gave me. I decided to get the Garrett 8" and 10 x 14 Mono coils to go along with the stock 10 x 14 DD. Based on what every told me, the mono coils are the best for dry/wet sand and the 8" is a lot easier to swing in the water. I went ahead and purchased the Plugger straight shaft as well.

I will be getting everything this week and plan on using it along with my Minelab E-Trac at a civil war hunt next weekend here in Virginia. I believe the place we're hunting has that nasty red Virginia clay and it will be interesting to see how the Infinium performs and which coil works the best.
