help with ace 250

Hello I have a minelab but just bought my father a ace250.The question I have is it seems a little confusing like silver does not read silver it says dime ect. Also if I go over a nail or trash it goes up and down on the scale like it is silver or a coin.Is there anyway so that does not happen when I have a coin I want to know it is a coin before I dig any help would be great. Ganted I only used it about 10 minutes and still have to read the book but if anyone has any hints I would be grateful thanks. You guys seem to really help

It sounds like you have your sensitivity too high. Especially if your in the house. Silver will read anywhere dime/copper cent on up. Have him run the sensitivity no more than 5 bars and set it in coin mode to learn.

Go to YouTube they have a tons of videos on it! Good luck!

If you hunt in coin mode ( which I suggest) rely on your ears more than your eyes.
Make sure you get a pure bell-tone with each sweep of the coil. The nail may fool the machine on one sweep but maybe not the return sweep.
If the signal crackles or sounds scratchy it usually isn't a coin....but it still could be.
Nobody makes a detector that is perfectly accurate. Some are better than others though.
Your ears are key in learning the foibles of the Ace.
Tell Dad to have fun and dig the good signals only for awhile.

What you going to learn is to dig everything I found a piece of silver the other day on the neckel setting this is a first for me to find silver on that setting. I think the soil conditions have a lot to do with it. It was very wet that day. JimCVA

When you see ID bouncing, that's because it is seeing more than one conductivity.
That can be caused by two different objects right next to each other, but it can also
be caused by rusty iron. It's probably the #1 reason most see it, as rusty iron is everywhere.
The conductivity of the iron itself is low. That is where you get the low bounce on the ID.
But rust coating itself is very conductive. That's what is causing the high bounces.
So if you see bouncing, most of the time you can expect it to be some kind of rusty
iron, or trash. Nails will do this, rusty bottle caps, etc..
You will almost never see ID bouncing on coins. They are very stable, and rarely bounce
around on the ID.
So.. dig the stable signals, and ignore the bouncers if you want to try to snag only coins.
Note that some of the bouncing signals might be objects worth digging up. relics, etc..
I tend to dig almost everything, unless it's blatant trash. Say if I'm over a lot of rusty
nails.. Once I know what they are, I usually won't dig any more that match that signal and
bouncy ID.
