Help with a Tongue Adjustable Civil War? era Buckle

Had the good fortune to save this relic this evening at Jackson, TN, 7/10. The tongue of this buckle slides and can work in one of three notches, I guess adjusting for where the hole is in the belt, i.e. low or high. The buckle measures 47X64 mm and is sold brass including the tongue. Jackson was occupied by the Union Army from June 62 to June 63. I find bullets all the time, found this buckle 20 feet from a bullet. This area where it was found is inner city, became urban about 1880. Style of buckle looks like a forked tongue buckle with the shank attached on the back of the buckle, but I just don't know. A little help please.

PS Cleaned for about 15 minutes in heated peroxide. You can also see where I dinged with my shovel, bottom right, back of buckle.

Further research shows a very similar buckle was found in a Confederate Camp in Spring Hill, Tennessee. That one was made in England. It has three tongues and is considered a carbine sling.
