I found this VERY heavy sterling ID bracelet in the water in a lake near Detroit. Here is the writing on it. Can anybody help find this person??

PERCY LOUIS SNOW

805 - 79 - 46 (Old Military ID number)

TYPE 0 T 7 / 43 (Type 0 blood ) (T 7/43 enlistment date maybe?) might be letters before the T too warn off

USNR (United States Navy Reserve)

Trying to find out if he is still alive and where he might be.

Thanks for any help!!!!

This guy would be in his 90s at least by now....You might find a relative though...
Also wonder if it is the same Percy Snow that played Football at Michigan State and was drafted into the NFL as a LB

HH,

Ok a person on the beach and water forum found his military record. Then a person on the Minelab forum found the state he was from. I did a zabasearch on the name and state and found an address. From there I searched for all the Snow's in that city. No luck. So I did a white pages search in that city and state and found a name at the same address. Called and got a lady. She said I found her father in laws bracelet. He died in 1990. Talked to his son and verified the information. I am sending if off tomorrow.

His son has NO idea how it ended up in a lake in Michigan. That story will never be told. BUT he has his dads diary from the war and other things. This will be with the collection.

Hello, I am Kyle Snow, grandson to Percy, and I just wanted to log in and say THANK YOU to everybody involved, especially Mr. Scubadetector. Thank you for going through all the trouble to track us down and return this piece to us, it does mean a lot to the family.

I would be interested in the details of where and how it was found, as it is a bit of a mystery how it got there unless he was there for basic training and lost it before going to war??

Thank you again, this is a great story that we will be telling for years.

Kyle

If anyone looks down on this hobby due to a few unfilled holes, I hope they see things like this to know the "real" coil wavers and their goals and standards.

Glad the family was found and the bracelet is back were it belongs...WTG!!!

HH,

What a great story and happy ending. TomB:clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping:

Great story and great advertisment for those of us in the hobby that feel an obligation to the finds ownes and try and return things... Enjoyed it..

that believe in returning what can be returned. BUT, I hold it against NO ONE that feels they don't have to. Its a personal choice here. I love the stories when I can hear them. Peace to all and have a Merry Christmas!!!!

Just got this E-mail this morning

Robert,
As you probably know we received the ID bracelet yesterday. It reminded me of going to the Grand Canyon. Pictures tell one story, but the real thing has a different effect. I can't believe how this has made it's way back to us. My father's only surviving sibling (of nine) is his 91 year old sister who lives next to us. We will be showing it to her today. She hasn't any better idea how this came to be in Michigan any more than the rest of us. My only sibling is a brother in CT. He has no ideas either and was unaware of the diary we have until he saw the post on the website after sending him the link of the picture. Soon the bracelet and diary will be traveling to him in CT and from there to my son who you heard from in VA. My 2 daughters are close enough they will have to visit us to see it.
I have to say I was pretty skeptical initially. How fortunate we are that you took the time and effort to see this through. We are truly grateful.

Thank you and Merry Christmas,
****** Snow

This is one of the BEST parts of this hobby

Great ending to a great find...Thank you for being so kind to those people and I hope others keep these principles in mind when they find something that might be priceless to a Family...Good job

If ID is there to find the owner, I'm all for it! I have a camera. I'll have the pics! The owners reaction is priceless!! Great story!:bounty:
