Help! White's QXT PRO

Just picked up a QXT PRO in phenomenal condition. Just got it out of the box put it together played with the controls and then the wife comes home.
I am familiar with many Whites machines so I know some about them. It seems that there is no search mode threshold sound like the xlt, dfx, 6000Di, etc? I hear it in pinpoint and hear it during ground balancing, but not in search mode. tried coins, coins jewelry, and no background hum until I hit the trigger I have thresh set to max and still do not hear it. Is this machine silent search? Is it broken? Nervous and agrivated. I am here at a restaurant sneaking this message. LOL

Anybody? I the QXT PRO is also like the Quantum II. I know the QXT is different from othet white's machines. I do get the traditional background threshold hum while in relic/prospecting mode. It is just rhat it acts like a silence seatch unit in coins and coins jewelry.
Is this normal? I guess I am expecting to gear the threshold as more pronounced. I kinda hear it but it is very weak and scratchy. I had an old garrett grand master hunter and the threshold was aleays very pronounced however it offered little in subtle changes indicating a deep target like the eay ny old spectrum did.
Thanks in advance.

I think it is silent search in discrimination, threshold when in all metal and pinpoint.

Only when DISC OFF is selected, or the trigger is squeezed and held, will the threshold be heard.

QXT is not like other whites, I have one and just got back in to detecting. Came from the older whites and the no sound on the QXT is hard to get used to. Info on them is hard to find but they do work very good for as old as they are. HH

Critterhunter has written a lot of helpful info pertaining to the OXT PRO: http://www.findmall.com/read.php?31,1110775,1115142
