Hi all
Im based in the U.K and have been using the Garrett GTI 1500 for many years,I want a change and wondered what you guys would reccomend around

I think I would pick up a used E-trac............Killer machine and priced right now that the CTX3030 is out...take it easy!!!

AT-Pro, X-Terra 705 .... one of these two detectors would be ideal for the small gold that the E-Trac can not see.

I'd get the X-Terra 705 over the AT-Pro due to the coil options on it.

If you are talking about small gold Jewelry....mine sure finds it!

Thanks Mascard1 and Bh Landstar for your options,im looking into both of the machines you mentioned,

Do you think they would out perform my garrett 1500 with signals /Depth etc?

I think all three machines would out do the Garrett.....The E-trac is top of the line....I know a lot of guys that are finding good stuff with the At-PRO

One question. Why ask on a U.S. forum when there's more chance of getting the more accurate advice by asking people who are looking for the same items in similar areas ? Which is where membership of a local club can be handy. Many will have the wrong machines themselves but you will be able to see whats performing best.

To get the best advice on a forum you should detail the type of ground to be worked ie ploughed, pasture or both. Any extreme detecting conditions to be considered or if the detector needs to be able to function on wet sand as well as land and if you really want a new detector or are prepared to go for an older machine that would have been the top of the tree two or three years back and may well still carry some warranty.

There's also the question of weight/balance. You could have tennis elbow for all we know or a young son who would like to use the detector at times. There's also the evolution of a particular machine. It could have been modified by the manufacturer two or three times in a few years but still retain the same general name and the latest (most expensive) version may well not be the best one.

Brian has given the best advice.Nobody can say what the best machine is,most recommendations are down to personal opinion or what works best for somebody in their conditions. All I can say is this,i have owned many different machines from many different brands(including the mxt pro) and all have found me stuff.Competition between manufacturers is intense so they all have to come up with machines that will perform and most mid to top end machines today will have fairly equal performance.Your choice.

I have owned the MXT Pro and it is a wonderful machine
but you can buy the Garrett AT PRO and the AT GOLD with the
same features plus, and for less money. Whites and Garrett are
the best machines out there in my opinion. Of course there are
other manufactures but I have never used their machines.

I have to go with you Brian, good question.

Dave never kids around.

You already are using "old" detectors. There's been a whole raft of detectors out in the last few months plus the cases where the manufacturers have listened to feedback and reworked the older models.

I thought it was Kevin B quote for a moment.... "I've had them all (except P.I.'s)". So an expert on what to choose. Then he says he hasn't had any Whites or Tesoro's.
