What would you estimate Mine lab will charge to fix a display screen that has started disappearing. The sound still works, so I can still use the detector by sound anyway, which I guess is all I really need?

what exactly do you mean disappearing.....fading out or just plain not there?

I had him reboot the machine and it was ok after that.
Rebooting does work on a lot of problems. It doesn't hurt to try before spending your money.
REBOOT: With the machine on, pull the battery pack out and reinsert it. Turn power back on. That simple.
If it works, your good to go. If not, no harm done.
