While MD'ing the neighborhood a man came over to talk and had owned a detector in the past. Heallowed me to take this coin(?) home to scan. We will be going MD'ing together, probably next week. I think it might be some sort of commemorative.

It has to be a copy. I think there is one authentic example of this 1776 Massachusets Copper know to exist. If it's geuine it is priceless.

Chris

There are plenty of articles online about this rare copper. On the copies the motto across the pine tree read "1c LM" on the genuine article it reads "1d LM."

If it's genuine? Why would he have found it in a yard here in Northwest Ohio. It is irregular shaped though but the light areas aren't copper colored. It doesn't weigh enough for silver and doesn't have the silver ring when tossed onto a hard surface.

They made quite a few copies of it. I wouldn't toss it on any tables either way. I think some of the original copies are somewhat valuable.

It would be worth having somebody in the know look at it. Here is another link to a gift shop. Says their copies were cast in pewter. Fits if your coin has silver spots?

Good luck!

Those fakes will give you a "nitro" moment. I remember earlier when Les thought he had found a Spanish coin. Turned out to be from a game. Boo Hoo. You never know, the real thing could be a swing away.
