Help! The Coil Tabs or Ears on my 11" Racer Coil Broke Off !

Tom Slick

Well-known member
I know there was an issue with the Ears breaking off some of the Racer coils. What do we need to do to get the coil replaced? I was loading mine into the back of my truck for a trip tomorrow and the coil just fell off.
Thanks
Tom

Thanks. I found the needed info a few pages back.

Contacted Makro and they will be sending me a new coil. That's what I call Great customer service. Thanks Makro!

It would be even greater customer service if Makro would "fix the problem" in the first place---before turning out all these stock coils with this ear breaking problem.

Wouldn't that be great. I wish all the new cars, boats, RVs, and motorcycles I ever bought had all their problems fixed before I bought them also. They were all a bit more expensive than the detector though.

How long did it take to hear back from Makro, Tom? I have a thin eared stock, and some falsing issues. Still haven't heard back from anyone at Makro. Glad v to hear they are taking care of the issue though.

Took about an hour. I emailed them here: cavit@makrodetector.com

I took mine to our open hunt to use and when I was unloading it from the car I seen one of the ears were broke too, so I had to use my AT Pro for the first couple of hunts. The bolt was broke too and with the parts I carry I was able to rig up something to get the Racer to work and notice a big difference in my finds for the other hunts. Called Makro when I got home and the coils are out of stock, but when they get in they will send me a new coil.

They said that the coil maker changed plastics on them and that was the root of the issue. Wonder how to determine which coils are made with the correct plastics? Interesting that they are OOS on the coils, perhaps they're retooling them?

The coils have S/N's so they should be able to tell by that when the plastic change over was made. (S/N groupings of the corrected plastics)

Don't deal or contact Makro. Go to their American distributor at metaldetector.com They were a pleasure to deal with. They replaced my coil and told me to throw the old one away. I was probably one of the first to deal with the broken ear problem. Here is a pic of two different coils. You can see the difference where the the wire enters the coil. I heard Makro is continuing to make improvements to the design.

I did not throw away the coil by the way. And mine was just cracked. If someone is good with glue you can probably glue on a support piece on the outside and drill the hole through it. I will send it to a forum member for free if you are waiting for the coils to be in stock. Just pay the postage. Yours to keep. I don't need it taking up space here anyways. Remember this coil has been replaced and there is no warranty. Makro and their distributor were very good to me with the coil replacement. I thought maybe I could pay it forward.

thanks for the tip goodmore, just got off the phone with them..an absolute pleasure dealing with them..mine will be in the mail monday!!excellent service

If the coil is ABS (most are) then Acetone will weld it fine, just don't overdo it because it kind of melts the plastic.

The tab on mine broke off called metal detector.com they told me I would have to send them my broken coil before they would send me a replacement. It cost me $9.00 to send them old coil.

well, in my opinion thats some bull...They have a known problem and there is no way someone should be paying a dime out of tbeir pocket...

My new coil has been shipped from Turkey. FYI - PVC cement and some small pieces of PVC plastic can be used to repair or replace broken coil tabs on the Racer 11" coils
