HELP Sov Meter Fix? Electronics Gerus needed!

Donny nj

New member
Hi, I have an extra Soverign Meter...it looks fine BUT I think it needs to be recalibrated to 180.......heres whats happening...

when I try to calibrate it to 180 with a quarter like my other one it can only go as high as 163 on a quarter...I cannot get it to read 180 no mater how you turn the knob on the back....Im sure its a easy fix for someone who knows electronics.....what do you suggest I should do?
Or do you know anyone who can fix it that I can send it to?

Thanx in advance

I had the same problem .......I did fix it and it was easy ......the problem ended up being caused by some dirt that had somehow worked its way inside the meter housing ....(its not sealed great and fine dust/dirt eventually can work under the screen and in from the knob in back also) I disassembled the meter and cleaned the dirt out ...it had fould up the contacts in the back ....there are three pins in back and thats where the dirt had gathered .......I cleaned it up wiped it down carefully with a alchol swab and reassembled.......it did require slightly peeling up the corners of the sticker on the faceplate to expose the 4 small screws.......the meter has been great ever scince .......this was about a year or so ago........anyhow good luck it shouldnt be a big deal........the way the meter sits if any dirt gets on the screen it works in ........(the angle is perfect for collecting dust).... I would recomend a meter cover, or do like I did and fancy up a nice glare resistant piece of plexiglass to fit right in there....good luck bro................I did have some pics of the whole process from me being stressed to eventually solving the problem ..........I came here with the same excat post as you .......it was a 550 meter and wouldnt go past 487 or something like that..... but it was also inconsistant so I coulnt just calibrate say a quarter to a certian number .......I had to open it up .....I was super careful too I was shocked to see how much crud was inside there ....... Well the meter did come from KEllyco so who knows it coulda been one someone returned and they sent me as new.......although it was working when I first got it....it all the sudden went foul.............

Thanx for the informaive reply......like I said I just got it as an optional piece, my other SOV meter works fine.....but I'd like to sell or trade this one for some good head phones and want it to work right for the person who buys it. It looks Mint just needs to be looked at by someone with experience to calibrate it.

Several things could have happened, one is like Adam said, another is the course calibration that is done inside the meter when it was apart was not done right, another is there was a couple different versions of this meter and some used a different resistor, but come with the kit to rescale.
If it give you too much problem you can send it to me and I can look at it, but cant guarantee anything as it may be bad too.
