When I was detecting last week I laid the detector on the ground and it started to play a tune then switched off. When I turned it back on again there was quite a long comment on the screen which I could only read the first couple of words which said This battery or the battery.
The batteries were charged as usual before going out so were not out of power.
Anyone out there any ideas as to what is going on.

Take the battery out,use a flashlight to look into battery compartment and make sure the 2 springs down there are straight, sometimes they get a little sideways and don't make correct contact with the battery. Also, use a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol to clean the contacts on the battery itself. This is almost certainly a BATTERY issue and not a MACHINE issue as I've had the exact same thing happen to me personally. You can also be sure that your screws in the handle assembly are snug so that the two halves aren't partially separating and causing the battery to break contact with the machine in some weird way....

Good luck!
