What frequency is the Whites Classic ID..........Thank you !

I need it to be 6.59..appreciate the response

[size=medium]Elton,

The earlier Classic series, in the more squareish control housing and powered by 3-9V batteries, operate at 6.59 kHz and share the same search coils EXCEPT the Classic III PLUS. The Classic III Plus also operates at 6.59 kHz, but the front-end electronics make it function with the Blue max series of coils, like the 950 it was supplied with.

Then there are the Classic SL series. The ones using the same slim-line housing as the XLT and other newer models. The Classic I and Classic II operate at 6.59 kHz, but use the old-style circuitry and do NOT use the newer Blue Max series of coils. Matter of fact, both the old-style and 'SL' style Classic I's have a hard-wired 8" coil. Only the Classic II SL interchanges with the earlier type coils.

The Classic III SL, Classic ID, Classic IDX and IDX Pro all operate at 6.59 kHz and share the same Blue Max series of coils (and others that do not say "Blue max" such as the Royal 800, etc.) as the XLT, Spectrum, Eagle II, 5900 & 6000/Di Pro SL, 6000 Pro XL and renamed XL Pro, QXT Pro/Quantum XT and Quantum II and a few others.

The Classic 4 and Classic 5-ID produced for Kellyco operate at 8.1 kHz and do not share coils with any other White's, except for maybe a few special package things they worked up for Costco, etc.

I don't think I have even seen any of the "old type coils " that I could use on my Classic II. I looked for a long time for a small shooter type coil but just could never find them. I like the CLII, but having no other coils to use with it just isn't cool! :thumbdown:

[size=medium]The BAD news is that even if you could find one of the older-style 4" coils, they aren't handy for working in and around building rubble and brushy environments because they had the coil cable entering the coil housing from the REAR! Not the top of the housing, but from the rear, thus making the 4" coils more like a 7"-8" coil when sweeping side-to-side because of possible damage to the coil cable. :(

The GOOD news is that you can probably have a Classic II modified (a little "front-end" work) so that it IS compatible with the "Blue Max" series of coils and such. :) Contact Bill Crabtree at Surfscanner Detectors and see if what he would charge to do that. While you're at it, he can also do the 'basic' mods on the Classic II which add an external Threshold and external 1-turn Ground Balance control.

The Classic II and Classic III are some of the handiest non-metered models that have been available and their size is deceiving because once held in the hand, especially with a 4" or 6
