I have come accross a strange happening. When I pinpoint most of my targets I usually use my pro pointer to tell me where to dig, and it is right on 99% of the time. The last couple of times out, I get a very strong signal reading dime or quarter, I pinpoint it with the AT, and then I can't find it with my pro pointer! I don't even get a signal. Any ideas? Thanks. PS I know it's not the Propointer because my wife's won't pick it up either.
Maybe you didn't dig deep enough? I have opened some 4 to 5 inch deep plugs and nothing with the Propointer. Dig down a few more inches and there they lay.
I have been consistantly pulling quarters and dimes in the 5 to 7 inch range with my Pro. A little patience and a longer shovel and you should be fine.

If you have a coil cover, check it for debris that may have slipped in. Make sure the cable is secured to the rod. Make sure your connections on both ends of the cable are secure. Look for cuts and scrapes on the cable and coil. I hope the solution is easy and inexpensive.
Thanks,

After you pinpoint with your AT Pro, you then use your Pro Pointer to determine where to dig but then don't get a signal with your Pro Pointer?
My Pro Pointer only hits coins at maybe max 3 inches, so if I understand your question correctly maybe your answer is your not digging a deep enough plug to locate your target with the Pro Pointer.
Another thing is, If you turn your Pro Pointer on while it is close to a metal object or in the hole next to the target it will de-tune it. The Pro Pointer will not make a sound then on the target unless it is almost right against it.
Make sure you turn it on away from any targets or it will diminish its depth capability.
As above, the AT can pick up coins at 2.5 times the depth of the pro-pointer.
This is what I do: Pin point the spot with the AT then use the pro-pointer to see if its shallow, if not then dig down about 3-4", use the pro-pointer again in the hole - make sure you check scooped out dirt and the sides of the hole. Still getting no signal means the target is more then 8" below ground level or I stuffed up the pin pointing with the AT. In this case I grab the AT and recheck.
Most of the time in these cases I have pinpointed wrong and a new hole is dug. Occasionally the coin is even deeper but if it is a coin the AT signal would have been fainter (in Pro mode). I don't hold much to the depth indicator on the screen as we have coins that have a similar tone yet are the complete opposites in size and the smaller the target the deeper the screen says it is.
Snoop I am having the same problem. Many of my finds are beyond the reach of my Garrett pro pointer. Just dig a little father down. I have only about 16 hours on the AT pro and have not had a false signal yet. There has always been a target there. A few of the targets I couldn't get to because the ground was frozen. I am very pleased with the way the AT pin points with that standard coil I don't know how many times I have pushed the probe into the ground and hit the coin right where the AT said it was. It usually takes me many hours and many targets dug to get the pin pointing down.
Thanks for reading and Happy Trails.... Z
I got a string tied to a washer and the string taped to the Pro. Turn the Pro on and slide the washer down toward the point till the Pro picks it up and then pull washer back a bit. ProPointer depth should double.
