Help please - noisy beach!!

Hi All
Well i am in an internet cafe at Akaroa - New Zealand.
thought I try the local beach with the Beach huner ID
Well it just bongs all the time - 4/5 times per sweep!
If i turn sens way down and hold the coil a little higher it gets better... found a few items..
My question - how does one detect on a beach like this with VLF unit?? Would a PI unit handle this any better - i can actually see the iron particles like dust, and with a small magnet can pick them up!
I am thinking about selling an getting a whites PI PRO - any thoughts on this?? My reasoning is that on a beach/surf i will dig all anyway, and if the PI unit handles mineralised beaches better and gets way better deph then that may be the way to go for me...
Does anyone know how heavy a Whites PI PRO is "out" of the water - is it OK to use on the beach?

Hi,

Had the same problem in Hawaii with the BHID. Too many signals on basalt rocks. I went to the Surf PI Pro, and have used it since. I'm headed to Hawaii again this winter, and it will be my third trip using the PI Pro. So I guess you can say I'm happy with it. It does get some weak signals on the worst hot rocks, but nothing like the VLF units.

Not sure of the top of my head about the exact weight, but it is about 4 pounds. You can get it with loop weighted or unweighted. Mine is weighted so it does not float. The balance with control box underarm is good enough I leave it as is when working out of water with it, but it can be hipmounted. Just take the control box off rod and slide a belt through the slot provided.

Yes, it works great on the beach. As a PI unit it is a "dig-it-all" unit but that works for me when hitting the beach. I dig far more junk hitting sports fields for jewelry than I ever will at the beach.

Bottom line I think the Surf PI Pro is a dependable water unit and a bargain for price. The only other comparable unit for the money is the Headhunter PI. If I did not already have the Surf the HH would be on my short list.
 
I will hold on to the BH ID for a while longer to get a better feel for its performance. Maybe ultimately Ill try a PI unit out - I wish I could compare them side by side but not many detectors out here in New Zealand, with 1 dealer I know of around 1000 kms away!
