:help: Pistol Probe and FBS?

I recently traded off my X-Terra 70 for an E-Trac. I have used the Detector Pro "Pistol Probe" for the last year or so with the X-Terra with great results. I have only had a few minutes with my new E-Trac because of the snow but I have noticed that it is all but impossible to find a frequency on the Pistol Probe that doesn't interfere with the E-Trac. The only conclusion I can come up with is that the X-Terra is a single frequency machine and the E-Trac is a multi-frequency machine. Have any of you had this problem? Is there a way to use the Pistol Probe effectively with the FBS machines? or am I looking at getting another pinpointing probe?
I am aware of the effectiveness of the SunRay inline probes but was hoping to put off the purchase of one since I just bought the E-Trac and kinda spent myself out for awhile. Any information or helpful advise would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi Idaho,
I don't have an Etrac but a Safari and use a Pistol Probe. I always press the menu button when I lay it down facing away from my. I sometimes get a little interference but manageable. I have noise canceled the Safari while holding the PP button down and that seemed to help as well. Love my PP but unfortunately it broke in have by accident. Still works but had to tape a splint on it. MEDIC UP!!!
Hope this helps a little,
HH,
Bunker

I use both the etrac and PP without problems. Bunker is correct and I do the same. Just point the coil away with the whole detector an arm's length off to your side and you should be fine. Sometimes I press the pinpoint button to quiet the detector down while I dig. That way I can usually hear the PP without taking the headphones off.
Hope this helps.
Thanks!
Bik

Thanks people. I'll try your suggestions.

Same as above. I swing the detector coil away from my recovery area before I dig and I get a minimal of interference. I do have to lift an ear cup on my headphone though in order to hear the pistol probe. My earphones do a nice job of limiting outside noises.

I have both the PP and the X-1 to use with my E-trac. Each has some advantages if you are thinking of trying something else.

I got tired of listening to all the static and bought a Sun-Ray X-1 wish I had done it over a year ago. The pistol probe is a great probe but if you get a SR you will wonder how you got along without it for so long. HH :minelab:

Similar question here..... does the Vibra Probe 580 cause interference with the Etrac? It is a pulse induction unit like the Pistol Probe, so I was thinking there would be an issue.

Right now I have a X1 on the Etrac, but I just bought a Whites TDI for use in some hot soil in VA. I will be needing a probe, was going to possibly get the Vibraprobe. Just wondering if I decided to use it with the Etrac if there would be problems???

Thanks for your suggestions everyone. I implemented your strategy's today and was successful. I had to do the same thing with the X-Terra (set the coil quite a ways from the probe) to keep the interference down so it's really not a huge adjustment. I did switch the detector to pinpoint while using the probe and that seemed to help. I'll keep experimenting to see what does and does not help.
Thanks again!
