Help on Large Cent Variety

Wondering if any one has a book on varieties of this 1833 large cent I found a bit back. It has a distinct doubling of the front face (forehead to nose). Don't know if you can see it on the pics. Thanks.

Nice Large Cent, shame it has the crud over the 18. OK, there are six (6) varities of the 1833 and yours is a Newcomb 6 , Die State A. I see no cracks thru the N so I am fairly certain it is the earlier die state A.

I have the book United States Large Cents 1816-1839 by Williamc C Noyes which is great for identifying the varietes, I also double checked against ones on Auction Archies of Heritage Website and looked at Coinfacts.com.

The doubling appears to be normal from what I can tell for the N-6 variety.

Thanks Don, for all the research on it. I need to invest in some of those books. Was hoping I had a rare double die variety. Will have to break the news to the wife that the vacation to Hawaii and the new Corvette will have to be on hold. (until the next great find!) I was going to try the old Q tip and naval jelly / rust remover on that spot, and then sulphur tone it as best as I can. Don't usually find them in this shape, but got lucky with some great drainage. Thanks for the help.

Thanks Bob!! It does look like it is doubled in the picture. I was hoping for that rare "retiring" kind of find. But I'm not complaining. I'll take coins in this condition any day!! thanks again.

I think you're right, CoinNut. Either I'm drunk, since I'm seeing double, or that lady has a much bigger nose than most. And, I don't even drink!
