I KNOW THIS QUESTION COMES AND GOES.I HAVE A TERRA X-70 NEED TO KNOW WHAT COIL IS BEST FOR THE X-70 FOR WET AND DRY SAND AT THE BEACH.THIS ARE THE COILS THAT I HAVE AT THE PRESENT.STOCK 9"--7.5----9"---18.75--9"---3KHZ COIL???THANK YOU.DO YOU GO WITH A DEEP COIL OR A SHALLOW COIL?

I would go with the 18.75 coil. My experience has been that it is hotter on the gold and small stuff like jewelery. 2nd choice would be the 7.5 and since I've never used the 3khz, I'm guessing that it would be one to use if you are specifically going after deep silver.

Let us know how the 70 does! Are you going to be hunting fresh water or salt?

Good hunting!

Mike

First off, any of the three coils will work well. Personally, I like the 3 kHz coil for hunting coins. The lower frequency coils are also better in highly mineralized soil and will hit coins deeper than the higher frequency coils. I like the 18.75 kHz coils for jewelry. Higher frequency coils provide better results on low conductive targets, smaller and shallower targets, and perform better in low to moderately mineralized soil. If I am hunting both coins and jewelry, I'd put the 7.5 kHz coil on. If I were hunting the beach, I would probably use Beach Mode. And, I would be tempted to use Tracking. The thing to remember, when using Tracking in the Beach mode, is that the Track function will operate about twice as fast as it does in the normal hunt mode. So, be careful to not balance out some ferrous and low conductive targets if the area is trashy. Bottom line is that any of the three coils will work. You just need to find the right combination of coil and settings for the specific site you are hunting. HH Randy

I have also been told that the 18.75 elliptical is a hollow coil and is not water proof. But, can be made so with a little silicone.

NH Bob is correct. I siliconed the coil cover and it works fine. I use it in the dry sand. Extremely light, can swing it all day. Deeper and more sensitive to quarters and other higher conductive targets than I thought it would be. A keeper.
