Great machine top of the line. You'll be pleased with the depth and the imaging feature. The 1500 is what detectorist upgrade to if they are Garrett fans. Most police agencies use Garret machines and airport security uses Garrett. Not a small company and great custom service.

If the coin is flat in the ground the Garrett is deadly to around 6 or 7 inches. Other machines are deeper but its still a great machine. It also loves rings.

MAN , 6---7 "IN DEPTH?thats hard to believe:confused:thats a real bummer:angry:been hearing all this stories that they were deep--------------000000h i done went and did it:thumbdown:bought a mint one in japan should be here in a week .whats the bestproven deep coil for this unit?----------------thanks james

I have both a 1500 and a 2500 and from my experience I can hit silver coins 8 to 10 inches with no problem. I've even field tested against a Whites and Mine lab they didn't go any deeper than the Garrets. At one time I was in the market for a Minelab but the dealer couldn't prove to me his detector went deeper than my Garrett in his test garden., so I bailed out. You'll find that everyone has their favorite detectors and that's that.Dig a hole measure ten inches place a quarter at the bottom cover it up and see what you get.

The 1500 is a great coinshooter and the imaging feature does take a lot of time to learn but it's a capable unit. Pinpointing should be done very slowly because you'll get the best imaging result when you are spot on the target. If you're a little off, the target id might be different.

If you really want to get good depth, you can always add the larger DD coil to your arsenal!

BTW, if you do use this site's search feature for this forum, you can find a lot of good nuggets of info about the 1500. Good Luck!

Yes on dd coil ...goes little deeper but image does not work on these ..at least not on mine ..i can hit a quarter at 8 inches but 10 nothing!!! I still like my 2500 and 4 to 6 inches it hammers coins ...i have couple buddies with whites v3i and 12 inch coins no problem ...im keeping garrett only cause iv learn all features good ..but am getting a v3i i n few weeks...... ron

Its not the deepest of machines because it is a dicriminating machine. If you want some deep coins WITH Imaging put the 12.5" coil on it. I hit pulltabs and quarters at 10" with it and Imaging at 10" and correct ID also with that coil.

I found a blog article about it being the best coin machine in the world here.

I love my 1500 but heavy

Garrett is a reliable coin shooter and it can sniff out silver easy. Garretts are know for there user friendly ways just turn it on and go but just like any machine it takes about a 100 +/- hrs to get familiar with all the sounds it make when dealing with different targets either masked with iron or high mineral content soil. Rest assured you've got yourself an excellent machine that can easily compete with the any machine on the market.

Ask yourself this question; Why is it that many people in the metal detecting world still you old world machines like the Garrett ground hog or the Master hunter CX? Its easy, They Work, They're Reliable, and proven themself in the field. They're outdated by many people standards but no one can deny performance.

The Garrett 1500 has proven itself in the field and has a huge following and for this I think you've made a smart, educated choice.

Thanks for posting this Bearcat ! Never knew you could get correct imaging at 10" with the 12.5" coil.
To get correct ID and imaging at that depth in the big open fields I hunt would be a great feature to have.
Normally just big open spaced with few targets where the 12.5" coil would be right at home.
I am assuming you are talking about hunting in the discriminate mode.
Thanks again for posting this. Good hunting to you ! Gene
