Help Needed on Relic ID

Here's one for you relic hunters. I found this "buckle" type relic about 3 1/2" long with my Xterra 70 at an old farmstead. It is deeply curved and has slots in it that I think were maybe intended for a leather strap to be weaved in and out of and 2 prongs inside that could be inserted in holes punched into the strap to lock it into place --- so I'm thinking maybe it was for adjusting a harness strap? --- but if so, why would it need to be as curved as it is??? Wouldn't a harness adjustment be somewhat flatter? It also has some sort of "knob" for lack of a better term on the main part of the outside frame that would perhaps serve as an attachment point to something else.

Any ideas on this "whatsit" would be greatly appreciated. I'm really curious about this object and have not seen anything quite this large for harness work before. Thanks for looking.

Just a guess but I have one similar, without the (H) configuration. About the same size. I think maybe the part that you thought was an attachment is just a rust growth. I think it could be a cinch buckle used to hold a saddle on the horse. Just my thoughts...

Bill,

Yeah I wondered if that "knob" was just a big rust growth and you were right, it was. I just took it between my thumb and index finger and snapped it off, so that side of the buckle is just like the other side. Thanks!
