HELP!!! My XS is SICK!!!

I took advantage of a days vacation and the great 63 degree day, charged the XS battery, drove an hour and 10 minutes to a Park that has given up a little silver and a few wheaties. I got to hunt an hour and a half and it happened! I was digging a deep target and still had the phones on my ears when the XS started making a strange beep. It sounded like an Iron target in Ferrous tone, it was a short beep every second or so and beeped for maybe 15 seconds then made a real strange sound and powered off. When I tried to restart it all it will do is bring the first screen up with the tones that it usually emits at start up then a screen appears that says "Reset Required" at the bottom, then it goes to the "Iron Mask" screen, (that's where I was when it went looney). I can go into set-up and all screens but they are barely visable. It will not give any signals at all, through the phones or the internal speaker. I have tried removing the battery at start up and while holding the start button with no luck. Does this sound like a trip to Minelab's Hospital???
Thanks, Tony

First thing I would try is a differnt battery to make sure it isnt a bad one as it can happen. If you have your alkiline pack and make sure they are good batterys and try it, if that dont do it than it sounds like it will have to make a trip to Las Vegas to be check out.

that is dangerous too...lol. I went back and turned it back on, I could barely see the display but finally made it out and guess what... when it shut itself down it reset everything to the lowest settings!!! All I had to do was brighten the display using the contrast, turn the volume up and I can NOW hear the signals. It was still giving me the "Reset Required" screen until I held the on button until it loaded the "Factory Presets" and it now seems to be fine!!! WHEW!!! I have a back up that I enjoy using but I didn't want to have to send it back!
Thanks for the suggestions!!!

Most computerised items get a funny five minutes and it pays to go back to basic status with them and then they are fine after re starting.
Its not just detectors.
Have Fun,Jerry.

I think the intermitant beep you heard was the low battery warning prior to shutting off as it should.
Now Put in a fresh charged pack and restart it.
Your Contrast sounds like it off.
Try adjusting it.
If that doesnt work Hold Down the Power button for 30 seconds that will reset the XS.
If all else fails call Minelab.
Then ask them.
