Help - My new AT Pro won't come on !!!!

Got my new AT Pro today and tried to turn it on but when I pushed the power button and held it down to power up the detector all i heard was a faint beep from the speaker and no icons appeared on the screen. I made sure batteries were in the plastic holder correctly and I also made sure the plastic holder was in the metal detector correctly. I then put four brand new batteries in the unit and same thing happened, a faint beep and nothing came up on the screen. I then tried a set of rechargeable with the same result. I'm set to leave to go to the beach for a week in Orange Beach and now I don't have my AT Pro to take with me. I'm sure Garrett will take care of this but not in time for my trip. Grrr! I left a message with Garrett but they were closed for the day. Any ideas what might be causing this?

by chance the coil and head phone jacks switched when assembled ? don't know if it would fit tho without looking at mine

Dont push and HOLD it...just sort of tap the power on button once...to power OFF, push and HOLD it for about 2sec (double beep)

Still wont turn on. I called Garrett and they are rushing me another unit. I should have it before my beach trip. I was stressing!

Cool!

In the meantime, watch as many youtube vids as you can about this rig...a poster here called 'Diggin-it" did some good ones on what gold/plat rings sound like a few years back...theres all sorts of youtube vids on this rig, but you want to try to tune your ears if you can...

This does suck, but...the AT Pro is a magnificent machine. It sounds like a rare defect and I know Garrett will take care of you. Now, you mentioned "beach". Fresh or salt water? If fresh water, you will have a monster on your hands...if salt water, be careful. It will be finicky in the wet sand. Follow "mudpuppy's" advice above and read, watch, read, watch, etc. There are a lot of resources online and you will learn a lot.

I'm going to Orange Beach, Alabama for a week. I've heard that its not as bad on the beaches in the Gulf, do you know if that's correct? I know that I'll have to auto GB and the manually offset about minus 2, and also turn down the sensitivity. I also heard that the AT Pro might be more stable in Standard mode when on the salt water beaches.
Any help would be appreciated.

I've been to Orange Beach, Destin and on the coast of Georgia with my A T and hunting dry sand is a breeze. Pro Zero, no disc. and wide open sen. On or near the wet sand it does chatter some and if I remember correctly over wet sand the ground balance is in the upper teens to low twenties and while I stayed in Pro Zero, I did drop the sen. down a couple of bars. Have a good scoop, as you can dig really deep targets up in the dry sand. Good luck. HH jim tn
