I live in a town that was officially settled in 1778, but where the first church was built in the 1730's.

I found this in the heart of the oldest part of town about 7" deep.
There were Civil War soldier in the area at one point.

Any idea what it is?

Tanks In Advance. This one has me stumped.
A local suggested it might go on a hat band, but I think it feels too heavy for that. I am puzzled.

Just a shot in the dark here, but maybe it's part of an old wax seal Stamper. The large flat surface would be the stamp side and the small side would be where it attaches to the handle. Just a guess, but if you search Google images for a wax stamper there are a few that look possibly similar. Good luck searching :)

Great idea.
