On Aug.17 my house burnt I know nothing about metal detecting.I borrowed a fisher 1266x.I am looking for my daughters diamond earings.I there a way to set it to pick up gold I know where they were but hpouse is toast.any help would be a blessing.

I use a 1266 and can tell you that it's very sensitive to all metals. There is no way to set it for gold. What I would suggest is to sift the area where the items were. Sorry about your loss, Steve in so az

For starters have no idea if the earrings would sustain the heat as a burning building would get quite hot, might check with a jeweler on that aspect. Have found silver coins in old burned out building and one silver dime was toast..
Due to the small amount of netal in earrings they would come in quite low so your Disc. would have to be set very low to pick them up.
Good luck and sorry about your loss of home and belongings...

My condolences about your house.

My best opinion is also to scoop up the general area of jewelry and sift through it. You might be able to put it on a tarp on a metal free lawn and scan through with no disc. setting on detector.

Sorry...no real easy way. If you could get an experienced detectorist to help it would improve your chances a lot. Where are you located?

Best Wishes, Joe

I too would suggest sifting. Get a small amount of screed something simular to a door screen. Then with a shovel sift the debrie you know about where the ear rings are.
